VTEC® stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control, a mechanism used exclusively in Honda engines. VTEC® improves the engine’s efficiency without sacrificing power. This is done by matching the air-fuel intake valves and exhaust valves to the engine’s speed. The valves open slightly when you’re traveling at low speeds. When you accelerate up to higher speeds, the air-fuel intake and exhaust valves open more widely to maximize efficiency.
The i-VTEC® engines apply Variable Timing Control to this same concept. VTC enables the camshaft gear to be continuously variable, further increasing the efficiency of Honda models equipped with i-VTEC®.
As the automotive industry looks to the future, the latest cars and SUVs are more fuel-efficient than ever before. With each new model year, improvements aimed at cutting fuel consumption and boosting eco-friendly performance are rolled out -- including Honda VTEC® and i-VTEC® technologies. If you’re looking to buy or lease a Honda but aren’t sure which Honda vehicles have VTEC®, our Gurnee Honda dealership is here to help.
You’ll find VTEC® Honda engines in an array of 2018 Honda models. These include:
Other 2018 and 2019 Honda models are equipped with i-VTEC® Honda engines, which add Variable Timing Control to the engine for even more efficiency.
Experience the difference a VTEC® or i-VTEC® engine can make first-hand by taking a new Honda out for a test-drive at Muller Honda of Gurnee. We sell a wide selection of the most popular new Honda models!
